Top Ten Uses for Pallets

You might not have thought so before, but let me tell you, wood pallets are awesome. You can find them for free, and a lot of them are worn and have a lot of character. So why not put them to use and reuse them in your home? (Did I mention they're free?)

When I told my husband about the awesomeness of pallets, he said no way. He worked in a shipping yard for a few Summers and said he would never want a pallet in his home. Let's see if we can change his mind, shall we?

Thus commences my favorite uses for recycled pallets.

1. Pallet Garden

This one is my favorite. I love the raw wood and rusted nails with the beautiful plants and succulents. The vertical garden looks so special and is a piece of art. This is also a great idea for apartment dwellers with only a balcony or deck for outdoor space. Prop these up against the walls to add some green and simple simple landscaping. You can find the instructions here.

2. Pallet Bed

{via}

Ooh la la... doesn't this low platform bed look so zen and romantic? I love the candles scattered around. Painted is pretty, but you could just leave the wood and it would be lovely too.

Two pallets together are the perfect size for a cute little kid's bed! Turned sideways, the pallets make little shelves for added storage. You could do the same thing to create an easy window bench or daybed.

3. Pallet Headboard

{via}

Mounting a pallet to the wall behind your bed creates an easy, rustic, sculptural headboard.

Paint a giant word or graphic on the pallet for a whimsical touch.

4. Pallet Coffee Table

Stacked pallets make a big statement piece with plenty of storage.

You can also mount a simple pair of legs onto a single pallet.

 Or you can go a bit fancier. Either way, I think they are beautiful.

5. Pallet Shelving

A pallet with some of the slats removed creates simple shelving.

It can be used to display dishes.

{via}

Or to store childrens' books.

{via}

And big people books.

You can also chop those pallets up and mount all the different shapes and sizes to the wall to create some great organization. Perfect for an office or media storage. How cute is that little desk?

6. Pallet Table

{via}

Say you've invited some friends over for a little dinner party. But there's no way you're getting that 500 pound 12 seater table back through your front door. Solution? You guessed it.

You can also make a sweet little potting table out of half pallets.

7. Pallet Swing

 {via}

Voila! A bench swing, just like that! Although I'm not sure how practical this is... it looks a little uncomfortable.

{via}

But, if you put some cushions or a mattress on it, it becomes a lovely little swinging daybed!

8. Pallet Path

{via}

Not quite sure about the practicality of this one either... I think I just like the photo. But maybe it would be coo!

9. Pallet Storage Solutions

{via}

Lean a pallet against your wall, and it becomes instant storage for all sorts of things. Like your bike!

{via}

Or your shoes. This is one idea I think my husband would love. Although I would probably put my shoes in the other way and hang the heels over the slats. All it takes is a little creativity!

10. Deconstructed Pallet

 {via}

Any finally, of course, the wood from pallets can be taken off and used for almost anything. Like a sweet serving tray.

{via}

Or to cover a wall! I would love to try this one.

And finally, a chandelier! Amazing right?

So basically, you can do anything with pallets. ANYTHING. I'm going to start my free pallet hunt right away. If you were a pallet doubter before, I hope this incredibly long post has you converted. If you are my husband, either convert or live with pallet recreations you hate. Ok, not really... but I may be slightly obsessed.
