Modern Valentine

For this shoot, I wanted to reimagine the traditional colors of Valentine's day in a way that felt modern and more organic. Lavender, coral red, barely blush, camel, and white. We used several motifs that are traditional to the holiday, but in unexpected ways. Flowers were deconstructed and used as earrings and art throughout the shoot. Paper, that could be used to wrap a bouquet of flowers or a gift was hung as an interesting, color blocked backdrop. We added dried flowers to a white chocolate bark, playing on the traditional gift of flowers an chocolates.

Happy Valentine's week, everyone!

How To Host a Beautiful Galentines | Published on Cottage Hill

Last year, my friend Jessica of Jessica's Photography and I hosted a Galentine's luncheon for some of our creative industry friends in Utah. It was such a beautiful winter day, basking in the sun streaming through the windows at Ember SLC, eating delicious foods that Jessica made for us. Especially during the winter months, I find it necessary to connect with other women and feel a sense of shared support and community. So this gathering was the perfect remedy to my winter blues? I brought some of my favorite, delicately scented spring flowers, and Jessica captured every detail beautifully.

You can read more about this event, and get the recipes for what we ate over at Cottage Hill

I've had a few requests for the flower recipe as well, so here is a breakdown of what I used for these arrangements:

  • White Lilac
  • Cafe Latte Roses
  • White/Blush Hanoi Ranunculus
  • Brown Japanese Sweet Pea
  • Antique Carnations
  • Blush Tinged Lisianthus
  • Blackberry Branch
  • Autumn Eucalyptus
  • Blossoming Branches
  • Lunaria

Featured on Green Wedding Shoes: Cliff and Sky Inspired Elopement

A couple of months ago, I worked on this romantic editorial with Shannon Elizabeth Photography. We too inspiration from the natural setting, a black rock cliffside with wide open blue skies. An organic aesthetic that was both hard and soft with pops of beautiful blue. (Like this amazing silk ribbon from my favorite, Silk and Willow.) I created a giant heart as a backdrop for our couple, and kept it looking a little wild, as if it could almost be growing out of the cliff wall. Similarly, I placed a variety of foraged vines and delicate blooms as if growing from the rock around the cake, where we place it in its own little stone cave.

Check out more of this beauty featured on Green Wedding Shoes. Thank you to the small, talented group who made this happen!
